Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of his coronation as ruler of the Maratha Empire, saying he played a significant role in ending the mindset of slavery and instilled confidence in people that self-rule was possible.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire, on the 350th anniversary of his coronation and described him as a beacon of courage and bravery.

In a video address, PM Modi said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's valour was an inspiration for everyone. He added that the 17th-century ruler ended the "gulami" (slavery) mindset and instilled confidence in people that "swaraj" (self-rule) was possible.
